Essex County Council has implemented Sirius7's Crime and Community Profiler Software across the County. Each of the 14 local authorities (including 2 unitary authorities), 9 Police Divisions, and 3 other crime related organisations share data and resources.
The Crime and Disorder Reduction Unit at the County Council receives monthly data from their Partner Agencies. The data is processed and entered onto Profiler for analysis. In 2005 the following datasets were available to Profiler users on a monthly basis:
The Crime and Disorder Reduction Unit are now utilising the 2004 IMD. The data is based on SOAs (Super Output Areas), which are made up from COAs (Census Output areas). By mapping crime hotspots and overlaying the most deprived SOAs they are better able to monitor against Government targets for important initiates such as Sustainable Communities.
The Government wants neighbourhood policing teams to be operating in every part of the country within the next three years. (see white paper - Building Communities, Beating Crime: A better police service for the 21st century - Warning: this is a large file)
Essex Police have recently completed and extensive consultation process to define new local areas which will form the basis of their neighbourhood policing teams.
Using Crime and Community Profiler, the wards will be amalgamated to form the new Police areas. The Police will then be able to map crime, incidents, anti-social behaviour, fire data and many other variables of the new local areas. This will enable the police to focus on, and tackle, specific local issues
