ONS 2001 Census Variables

Every 10 years, since 1801, the nation has set aside one day for the Census – a count of all people and households. It is the most complete source of information about the population that we have. The last Census was held on Sunday 29 April 2001.

The results of the 2001 Census first began to be released in 2002 by the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Sirius7 holds all of the 2001 Census variables. Variables are available at Local Authority District , Local Authority Ward and Census Output Area level. We can also aggregate many of the variables to any co-terminus geography such as Super Output Areas.

Each of our customers receives a subset of the 2001 Census variables. This subset contains 2001 Census variables that are applicable to the relevant industrial sector. For example:

  • Education Sector - Number of persons by Age Cohorts: using this Participation rates can be calculated
  • Crime and Disorder Sector - Number of households: Burgalry of dwelling per 1,000 population can be calulated using this
  • Sales and Marketing Sector - Number of persons by Age, Gender and Ethnicity: new and potential markets can be targetted using this information

As well supplying a subset of 2001 Census variables, Sirius7 can also provide many other 2001 Census variables. A selection of the 2001 Census variables that we offer can be viewed by clicking here.
